A fast-growing composites start-up based in Oxford, UK. The company applies AI-driven solutions to the traditionally manual process of designing and ordering composite tooling, ensuring rapid transition from CAD to component.

Job Overview

This role focuses on composite tooling design and provides an excellent opportunity for growth in an innovative environment.

Key Responsibilities

Project Management:

  • Create optimized designs and technical drawings for composite patterns and moulds using a variety of materials.
  • Manage customer data revisions and ensure designs meet specifications.
  • Work within time and budget constraints, and contribute to revising these when necessary.
  • Oversee external design resources as required.
  • Further develop specialist knowledge in composite tooling and manufacturing processes.
Candidate Profile
  • Proficiency in CAD software (Catia v5 and SolidWorks), including part design, surface design, assembly, and drafting modules.
  • Expertise in parametric modelling, tooling, and surface design optimized to meet mechanical, thermal, and manufacturing requirements.
  • Ability to create clear 2D technical drawings with proper version control, ensuring design intent is conveyed to manufacturing teams.
  • Strong understanding of composite manufacturing processes, including CNC machining and CFRP layup, and the ability to design tooling optimized for these processes.
  • Strong communication skills, good commercial awareness, and excellent time management.
  • Desirable Extras: Familiarity with aerospace engineering standards. 2-5 years of experience designing tooling for composites.
